Congratulations to Chestnut Elementary School second-grader Jazett Garay, who was selected as the next PCLS W-o-W! (Writer-of-the-Week). Her teacher, Mrs. Johnson, submitted her opinion writing piece, “I wanna...” because “she went above and beyond the expectations for 2nd grade writing. In a letter to her mom and dad, Jazett gave multiple reasons for why a bearded dragon would make a great pet. As you read her letter, it is as if she is talking directly to you. She asks questions to grab your attention, makes witty comments, and even signs off as "your favorite daughter". Jazett's piece was fun to read and very persuasive!” Jazett was presented with a certificate of achievement and allowed to choose a prize from the Writer’s Toolbox.
The PCLS Curriculum Department/Teaching and Learning Team developed the W-o-W! program to recognize the hard work and creativity of PCLS students. In an effort to help build a community of writers, the team encourages schools to display the W-o-W’s work and asks teachers to use the W-o-W’s work as part of their writing instruction. Jazett will be invited to read her writing at an upcoming board of education meeting.
