Congratulations to Heritage Middle School sixth-grader Mariah Ledet, who was selected as the next PCLS W-o-W! (Writer-of-the-Week). Her Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Cathy Naughton, submitted her essay because “Mariah is an amazing student with a knack for tackling a difficult subject and making it understandable. Her knowledge level of many topics goes above and beyond a typical sixth-grade student and it is evident in her writing. She puts forth extra work on every assignment and pulls in prior knowledge to educate her peers. I enjoy reading every essay she writes.” Mariah was presented with a certificate of achievement and allowed to choose a prize from the Writer’s Toolbox.
Her essay can be read below.
The PCLS Curriculum Department/Teaching and Learning Team developed the W-o-W! program to recognize the hard work and creativity of PCLS students. In an effort to help build a community of writers, the team encourages schools to display the W-o-W’s work and asks teachers to use the W-o-W’s work as part of their writing instruction. Mariah will be invited to read her essay at an upcoming board of education meeting.
