Congratulations to Chestnut Elementary School first-grader Maria Acosta, who was selected as the next PCLS W-o-W! (Writer-of-the-Week). First-grade teacher, Ms. Dunne, submitted her journal entry because “Maria worked hard on her journal writing and wrote a personal narrative during her Daily 5 work on writing time. She wrote this on her own without any help from the teacher. Maria is a hard worker and showed her perseverance and determination.” Maria was presented with a certificate of achievement and allowed to choose a prize from the Writer’s Toolbox.
Her personal narrative can be viewed below.
The PCLS Curriculum Department/Teaching and Learning Team developed the W-o-W! program to recognize the hard work and creativity of PCLS students. In an effort to help build a community of writers, the team encourages schools to display the W-o-W’s work and asks teachers to use the W-o-W’s work as part of their writing instruction. Maria will be invited to read her journal at an upcoming board of education meeting.
